I recently traveled to Danville, VA, for a wedding. By coincidence, we were coming back from a family vacation in Maryland. We packed up from our hotel in Ocean City, Maryland, and headed to Danville, about 7 hours away. We found a nice Airbnb for our family. The next morning, my family dropped me off at the venue, Atkinson Farm. It was similar to venues that I have filmed before in Kansas, but even more beautiful. I met the bride, and she was so happy I made it all the way from Kansas. The photographer and I then got the detail shots, like the rings and dress. The groom pulled up shortly after we finished the details, and he was even more excited to see me in person and that I had traveled across the country; he no longer had to worry about whether I was going to be there. Got some of him getting ready, then headed back to get the bride with her dress. Then it was time for the ceremony. I mic’d the groom with a recorder and set up my other recorder for the ceremony audio. I set up my 2nd camera on a tripod and positioned myself for the ceremony. Even though it was very hot the ceremony was the perfect length and went great!

From there, it was just group photos, dances, and toasts. The reception had a fun vibe, with not many extra activities beyond a typical wedding. I grabbed some drone shots when the dancing started. It was a perfect venue to fly the drone. Beautiful scenery with open space, so it was not in danger of crashing into anything. haha! Got some more dancing footage, then they had everyone line up outside for a sparkler exit. Once everyone lit their sparklers, the couple made their exit while everyone cheered. It was a perfect ending for a wedding film. They thanked me for filming their day, and I packed my stuff up to leave.

This was such a great experience, since I haven’t filmed a wedding outside of Kansas in quite some time. It could not have gone smoother and hope to book another wedding at this venue.
